Florida statutes requiring ekg for sports physicals

The Second Chance Act mandates that all high school student-athletes in Florida must have an electrocardiogram (EKG) before participating in interscholastic athletic competition. This law, effective from July 1, 2025, requires that EKGs be administered in accordance with specified standards and that students complete at least one EKG screening before participating in athletic competitions. The law also prohibits students with abnormal EKGs from participating in interscholastic athletic competition until a written medical clearance is submitted to the school. This initiative aims to enhance the safety of high school student-athletes by detecting potential heart conditions that could lead to sudden cardiac death.

IPL
